Using Phonics Readers with BOOM Cards is a great way for kids to practice reading CVCe words.
Interactive, Self-grading, Paperless
We already know that BOOM Cards provide a great way for kids to practice all kinds of skills. This interactive platform provides accountability and enthusiasm for learning. Kids also love the “video game” aspect and receiving immediate feedback on their answers. Teachers like that they can track their students’ progress and make adjustments with reteaching.
BOOM Cards Phonics Readers CVCe Words
When you combine BOOM Cards with Phonics Readers (or emergent readers) you have a great combination. You can turn your students loose with this set of BOOM Cards because there is built-in assistance on every page. The a student is unsure, they can simply click on the speaker icon and the directions or word is read aloud to them.
More Than a CVCe Phonics Reader
Because of this great platform, BOOM Cards allow these readers to be interactive. There are three different types of sentences on the cards; Declarative, Interrogative and Exclamatory. The directions card tells students to read the sentences with expression. How great is that! Also, students are to answer a question on every card which provides a way to check for understanding. The answer will tell about the picture. Students will drag the words from the word bank to the sentence template below. The kids must then read their sentence to make sure it tells about the picture.
More about Sound for BOOM Cards Phonics Readers CVCe Words
Don’t you wish all phonics readers had sound? Imagine your students are reading along and they aren’t sure what a picture is… on traditional readers, they can’t simply tap the picture to have the word read to them. In BOOM Cards Phonics Readers, this is possible and an available option with this set!
This is the first card students will see. I created a video showing them exactly what to do. This is helpful when a teacher or parent wants their child to get started right away.
How many BOOM Cards in the CVCe Phonics Reader set?
This set of BOOM Cards has 40 cards, and the directions card. Each card has two CVCe pictures on it. This is such a great vocabulary builder for children. If they are unsure what a picture is, they can click on an image to have the word said aloud. Having this component really adds to the vocabulary building aspect of the cards; an element that is missing from traditional phonics readers. Students can also tap the large speaker in the top left corner if they cannot remember the directions.
Multiple Skills Phonic Readers
Having multiple skills included in the CVCe Phonics Readers sets them apart from others.
Here are the skills the students will practice:
- Over 70 CVCe words with voice recording of each word (in case they aren’t sure what the picture is)
- 3 Different Types of Sentence – Declarative, Interrogative, and Exclamatory
- Using Prepositions: The pictures are placed together strategically so a question can be asked about the placement and students can answer using a preposition word.
- Sight Words: Students will be exposed to 6 sight words on every page *See, *the *Look, *at, *Where, *is
- Reading with Expression: Students are encouraged to read the sentences with expression based on the punctuation in each sentence
- Comprehension: The student must answer the question about the pictures
- Syntax: Students are expected to arrange the words in the word bank to create a sentence about the pictures. There is a reminder for students to read the sentence softly to themselves to make sure it make sense.
Who Can Benefit from BOOM Cards Phonics Readers
I have many Phonics Readers in my TpT Shop, and sell to K-3 students, special needs kids as well as language learners. The paper readers are very helpful to these student population groups. Since these digital phonics readers are so much better, they will also help this same population of kids, but they will be even more successful! (Click on the pictures to check these products out.)

An Interactive Resource!
What does interactive mean, exactly? It means that the cards communicate back with your student by reading directions and words to them and that they receive immediate feedback on their answer. If the answer is correct, they move on to the next card. If the answer is wrong, they are shown exactly what was incorrect and a chance to try again.
